Interlibrary Loan Requests & Restrictions

In order to request an interlibrary loan, users must create and submit requests via their Interlibrary Loan account.

  • All Interlibrary Loan communications will be sent to patrons’ USI email address.
  • Unless arrangements are made with Interlibrary Loan staff, items not picked up will be sent back to the lending library after two weeks.
  • After 90 days, any electronically received materials will be deleted from patrons’ ILL accounts.
  • Some libraries place restrictions on materials such as library use only or no renewals. The ILL unit will comply with all lending library restrictions.
  • The Interlibrary Loan Unit reserves the right to deny requests.
  • Requests for textbooks are not processed.
  • Materials obtained via Interlibrary Loan are subject to copyright restrictions.

Overdue Interlibrary Loan Items

Users with interlibrary loan materials more than three weeks overdue will be blocked from using Interlibrary Loan and checking out Rice Library materials until the item(s) are returned and/or fees cleared. All late fees and/or replacement costs are determined by the lending library and are applied to the user’s Banner account. If the fees are not paid, the user will lose library privileges and may have their Banner account blocked.

Users that are chronically overdue may be subjected to library use only restrictions.
