The David L. Rice Library supports the mission of the University of Southern Indiana by assisting the instruction and research efforts of the university's students and faculty through the provision of appropriate collection and services. Among the library's most important goals is to create a setting where users feel free to pursue research and study without compromising their privacy or safety.
Anyone may use materials from the shelves within the David L. Rice Library. Materials are loaned only to borrowers who present a valid ID.
USI Students, Faculty and Staff must present their USI Eagle Access Card. CAP students are considered USI students but have a specialized card that is issued by the library.
Non-USI affiliated patrons are welcome to borrow books, but they will need to present a valid state or federal photo ID. We classify these users as Courtesy patrons and issue a card that is valid for one year from the date of issue. Visiting professors and ALI (Academic Libraries of Indiana) reciprocal borrowing participants are also considered Courtesy patrons. All other requests will be determined by the Circulation Manager.
Loan periods vary depending on the type of material and the borrower. Borrowers will receive an email courtesy notice a few days prior to the due date. Loans may be renewed on-line by logging into the library home page, clicking on Services and selecting Library Account. Once books are overdue, they may not be renewed online but must be brought to the library for renewal.
