This database list includes all of the Rice Library's subscription databases, as well as several publicly available resources. Databases marked (INSPIRE) are freely available through the Indiana State Library to anyone with an Indiana IP address. No USI login necessary!
There has been a significant change impacting library resources within the state of Indiana, stemming from recent budget cuts to the Indiana State Library's state-funded database program, INSPIRE. Due to recent budget cuts by the Indiana General Assembly for FY26 and FY27, the Indiana State Library has unfortunately been forced to downgrade the offerings of the INSPIRE program. This means that, effective Friday, August 1, 2025, our campus has lost access to several dozen EBSCO databases. While we are still assessing the full scope of these changes, we know that some of these databases are quite important to the teaching, learning and research activities across our university. We understand that this news may be concerning, and we want to assure you that we are working to understand the precise impact and explore all possible solutions.
As these changes go into effect, we ask for your patience and understanding. Our library will be working with faculty members and other patrons to identify the most critical resources affected and to determine how these losses will impact our campus. It is also important to note that, in order to mitigate the impact on essential research and teaching, the library may consider directly replacing some of these critical EBSCO database subscriptions. We may also rely more extensively on our library’s Interlibrary Loan services to obtain needed materials. We are committed to minimizing disruption for our students and researchers and to maintaining the highest possible level of support for our university's academic mission. If you have any questions, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss this situation with you further.
