Rice Library Donation Policy

In accordance with USI’s mission to advance education and knowledge in the university’s learning community, the Rice Library develops and maintains physical and digital collections as curricular supports for all academic programs. The library accepts donations on a case-by-case basis in alignment with this collection policy. Accepted donations become the property of the Rice Library and the entire donation may or may not be added to library collection based on an analysis of physical condition, duplication within existing collections, or other collection development criteria. Materials that are not integrated into library collections will be sent to a sustainable second-use vendor. At the end of the calendar year, the library will send an acknowledgement letter to donors who provide contact information. Note that the library does not provide valuation services for donations. These services must be secured from professionals outside the university.
