The Interview Process

Once Applications are Received

We will begin reviewing application materials approximately 3 weeks after the position has been posted. Following the initial review, we will invite candidates on our short list for a brief (30 minute) virtual interview. This brief interview will give you a chance to ask any questions that may not be answered here. It will also give us a chance to learn a bit more about you, your interest in USI, and your work.

Once virtual interviews are complete, we will invite finalists to campus for in-person interviews. We look forward to introducing you to the library, the campus, and the people who work and study here.

What to Expect Upon Arrival

You will arrive the day before your on-campus interview. We will arrange all transportation and hotel accommodations to make your visit as comfortable and smooth as possible. If you arrive early enough in the evening, we will take you to dinner and back to the hotel. We understand you may have different needs and will work to accommodate those needs.

What to Expect the Day of the Interview

Following a continental breakfast at the hotel, we will pick you up and bring you to campus where your day will include the following activities between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.:

  • 30-minute meeting with the Director of Library Services
  • 30-minute meeting with the Administration Suite staff
  • 50-minute presentation on a relevant topic
  • One-hour meeting with the search committee
  • One-hour meeting with the Resource Management team
  • A brief meeting with Human Resources to discuss benefits
  • Library building and campus tour

We know interviews can be long and stressful, so we will schedule breaks and prep time into your day – including lunch. Depending on your travel arrangements, we will take you to dinner that evening or to the airport to travel back home. Your travel arrangements and the schedule of activities will be sent to you in advance.

Campus Life and Living in Evansville

Take a Tour of Campus

One of our favorite things about the University of Southern Indiana is the beautiful, 1,400 acre campus, which is surrounded by trees and trails. You can take a virtual tour of campus or learn more about the multi-use trails here.

Learn more about Living in Evansville

Part of deciding to join our team is also deciding to live in or near Evansville. There's a lot going on! From food festivals to art festivals to music festivals and everything in between, you'll likely find activities to fill your time.

Evansville is also close enough to take day or weekend trips to St. Louis, Louisville, Nashville, Lexington, and other major cities, and it's one of the most affordable cities in the US. If you like the quieter, more historic side of things, we are close to Historic New Harmony - a small community settled in 1814 as a spiritual sanctuary for the Harmonie Society and then a haven for international scientists and scholars led by Robert Owen in 1825. Lastly, Evansville is home to a top ranked charter school in the nation. We hope you find these links helpful!
