Archive Resources

  • The Evansville Argus gallery contains The Evansville Argus, an African-American newspaper in Evansville, IN that was published from 1938-1945. The paper featured local, national, and international news. The newspapers are keyword searchable and individual pages can be copied or printed.
  • The African-American Community gallery contains photographs from Evansville, IN from the 1920's to the 1980's. This gallery is comprised of individual collections from local citizens. The collections include the Charlotte Moody Collection, Alfred Porter Collection, Solomon Stevenson Collection, and Charles Rochelle Collection.
  • Numerous oral histories (link to the online listing with subjects)

The UASC is also home to several local collections like, Charles Rochelle, early leader in education, and Alfred Porter, another educator in Evansville. At this time neither of these collections are online, except photographs, but a finding aid can be supplied upon request.

There is also the African American Museum in Evansville.

 

What are the University Archives/Special Collections?

Located on the third floor of the David L. Rice Library, the collection consists of personal papers, business, organizational, and governmental records. Included are diaries and journals, correspondence, literary manuscripts, art work, account books, minutes of business firms and organizations, scrapbooks and newsletters, photographs and memorabilia.
