The Scholarly Communication Unit of the David L. Rice Library is available to help the USI community navigate new modes of sharing and teaching, including open access, open education, author's rights and copyright. We offer online one-on-one consultations, workshops, and will happily attend group Zoom and Team meetings as well.
Opening Doors and Closing the Gap: The Vital Role of Open Access in Higher Education
Tuesday, October 24 at 1:30 pm in the Rice Library 4th floor Reading Room
The Open movement seeks to break down barriers to education and scholarship by eliminating financial strain and promoting transparency, collaboration, and equitable access. Join Dr. Laurel Standiford Reyes, Assistant Professor of Psychology, USI, and Dr. Crystal Steltenpohl, Training and Educational Manager, Center for Open Science, for an open dialogue on the importance and benefits of OER (Open Educational Resources).
Light refreshments will be served.
Open Access (OA) scholarship is digital, online, free of charge, and free of most copyright and licensing restrictions. OA publishing shifts the costs of content creation and distribution away from subscribers, so that OA scholarship is freely available to anyone worldwide with an internet connection - no subscription necessary. Open Access Week is a global event celebrating the benefits of free, immediate access to scholarship produced by the research community. It is held annually in late October.
