Guidelines for Evaluating NGOs

What to Look for on an NGO Website

  • An "About" or "Who We Are" page
The language on this page should be direct and transparent, identifying
    • Who runs and who works for the organization
    • What the organization stands for
    • What the organization does for a particular cause or issue
  • Source(s) of funding
  • A list of members for a Board of Directors or similar steering group
  • A list of partner organizations (if applicable).
Pay attention to whether the NGO or its partners are affiliated with entities in the following spheres:
    • Academia
    • Corporations
    • Government
    • Religion
    • Political parties or groups
None of these associations are "good" or "bad." They are simply factors to be aware of when analyzing an organization.
