Guide to Library Instruction

What can students learn during an instruction session?

  • Determining the amount and types of information needed to fulfill their research needs
  • Forming their research questions into manageable concepts
  • Searching for books, articles, reference materials, multimedia, and more
  • Differentiating between scholarly and popular publications
  • Evaluating web resources
  • Accessing the many support resources available to them, including a personal connection with a research librarian

Types of Library Instruction

The library is committed to the safety and wellbeing of our students, faculty, and staff. This library instruction uses a mix of synchronous and asynchronous methods to teach students the research and information skills they need to be successful at USI and beyond. When you request library instruction, you and the librarian will plan a strategy for your course. The session can be face-to-face or online depending on the comfort of the librarian and instructor.

We look forward to working with you and your students.
