Course Description

History of the United States from the creation of the Constitution to the end of the war with Mexico, emphasizing economic growth, territorial expansion, and social change. Substantial attention is given to slavery and antebellum reform.

Why Reference Sources?

Reference sources can provide you with valuable information such as:
  • Background information
  • Important figures
  • Dates, places, and people
  • Definitions and key terms
  • Lists of additional sources (articles, books, etc.)
They are an excellent way to begin your research by allowing you to become familiar with the topic in preparation to choose the best articles, books, and additional resources. 

Where are the Atlas Stands?

The Atlas Stands are located on the 1st floor of Rice Library near the Reference Collection.
 
When entering the library, go past the elevators and staircase and make a right.  The stands will be at the end of this hall.
